ABOUT OUR RECORDING ENGINEER/PRODUCER:
JR Paredes brings a wealth of musical knowledge and
experience to his work at Backstage Music Center. He began
learning how to record at the age of 12 as he conducted many
experiments using an old Tascam 4-track recorder and two
cheap dynamic microphones to record his rock band. Since
then, JR has broadened his musical horizons through both
formal and informal musical training that he utilizes while
working in the studio. He attended Trinity University in San
Antonio, Texas where he majored in Music Composition and
learned recording techniques on vintage analog equipment
from the 1960's. JR also earned a Master's Degree in Music
Composition from Rice University where he developed
advanced skills in electronic music composition and digital
recording techniques under the tutelage of professor Kurt
Stallmann.
As a classical composer, JR has won several composition
contests at the national and regional level including prizes from
ASCAP, the Associated Colleges of the South, and several
others. As a performer JR has played in orchestras, wind
ensembles/bands, Dixie and polka bands, and of course rock
bands. He has performed at several prestigious venues
including New York's Carnegie Hall and has performed on
several regional, national, and European tours.
Through these eclectic musical experiences, JR has been
exposed to many different musical styles and has developed
his versatility to record many different genres of music, whether
it is rock, classical, country, jazz, or something more extreme. In
addition, his classical composition training has significantly
aided his work as a producer as he often guides clients during
the songwriting and arranging process and has even written
orchestral arrangements for several clients' songs.
JR is proficient on many instruments including piano/keyboard,
guitar, drums, bass, singing, and even brass instruments, so
recording clients at Backstage Music Center take comfort in
knowing that their recording engineer understands how their
instruments work and how they should sound on a recording.
During his lifetime JR has recorded many different artists
including rock bands of varying styles, solo artists (pop singers,
guitarists, keyboardists, etc.), classical soloists and chamber
ensembles, and jazz bands.
